Magnesium Stearate: Are you ingesting it?

Many dietary supplements on the market contain Magnesium Stearate. It is often found listed in the 'Other Ingredients' section of the label - though, in some cases, it may not be listed.

Magnesium Stearate is one of the most common additives found in supplements, because it is inexpensive and easy to use.

It is an execeptant that is used to bind tablets and make them smooth. Magnesium Stearate is also used in pharmaceuticals, foods, talcum powder, ammunition, and as a drying agent in paints.

When it is used in vitamin or supplement preparations, it may bind the tablets together so tightly that they may not dissolve causing tablets to pass though the body intact (unabsorbed).

Chances are your intention is not to continually supplement with Magnesium Stearate. For optimum health, it is best to avoid Magnesium Stearate, and use only additive-free supplements. [© 2004 World Image Naturals, Inc. www.worldimagenaturals.com]
